I always say to myself, "you're eithing casting or wading.". When you do both at the same time, accidents happen.

Re: 101 Wading Tips

Watch out for muddy banks. You can slide right into the river! ... Like I did today!

When wading swift deep water with a buddy, always remember that not everyone is six feet tall, and what may be a challenging crossing for you is a nice easy swim for your shorter colleague.

Re: 101 Wading Tips
Excellent, around 40 or so...
Tip
A simple one, don't ever wade backwards.
Tip
Don't leave your wading gear in your car during the winter (or anytime). A pair of frozen wading shoes is impossible to put on. If you forget, dunk your shoes in the stream when you arrive.

Re: 101 Wading Tips
You can also put your wading shoes under the floor heater to defrost them while driving to the stream.

Make sure your foot is securely planted before you commit your weight to it and lift your other foot.

Tip
If you wedge your foot between two rocks mid-stream, don't panic! The frantic motions during a panic usually make it worse. Stop, take a deep breath and systematically try to twist your foot and ankle slowly until it comes free. If there is someone around, ask for help.
