When people think of
These are pictures of our adventures to Pennsylvania. You can find me on a stream in the Poconos one week and out near State College the next. Pennsylvania has some of the best and most diverse fisheries in the country. They have everything from stocked trout paradises to awesome wild trout fishing and everything in between. These are some of the pictures that I have to share with you so that you may be able to explore the endless opportunities that Pennsylvania has to offer the fly fisherman.
Connecticut has two awesome trout fishing destinations. The Housatonic and Farmington Rivers are destination fisheries in themselves. The latter is an awesome trout stocked fishery with plenty of fish to catch. Some fish at the Farmington reach exceptional size. There was a 29” trout caught there in the summer of 2006. The Housatonic is in my top 5 favorite trout streams. This is as close to a wild trout fishery as you will get as far as stocked trout rivers are concerned. The Housy as it is called, has provided me with many trout filled days, evenings and even an occasional night. If you like fishing in rivers that are filled with trout, and offer the average person to catch an exceptional trout then you should add these two places on Connecticut to your must fish list.
Alaska is Alaska that is all I have to say!!! The fishing is like nothing you can even imagine. You can catch steelhead until your arm falls off. The guide I spoke to said not to stop the boat unless you see 50 fish. He was lying, but this lie was one that we liked!! He should have said to only stop the boat when you see ONE HUNDRED fish. These were huge steelhead. They averaged 12-15 pounds with some giants thrown in for good measure. My friend Kevin lost one that could have been thirty pounds!!!!! It looked like a salmon when it surfaced. I will be there next year to intercept these beasts!!!!!! I will have to hit the gym first!!!!!!!!!!
These are pictures from Montana and Idaho. I make two trips a year to fish out West. I can’t get enough Western trout fishing. The rivers out West are a fly fisherman’s dream. There are literally tons of trout AND you can have some big days. My three picks for must go to places out west are the Big Horn, the Madison and South Fork of the Snake. Even though I have only been to a fraction of all the places there are to go to out West, I can definitely give thumbs up to those three rivers. I am satisfied that anyone will have a quality experience at any of these locations.
If a person were to ask me to narrow their choice down to one place it would be the Big Horn River in Fort Smith, Montana. My friend Mike and I have three ways to describe the fishing there. When it is on fire it is “Throw it upstream and get one”. When it is good we say, “Throw it in and get one”. When the fishing is poor we say, “Throw it in and send it down and get one”. If you read all of these sentences “get one” is repeated every time. That is exactly what you will do at the Big Horn. The Big Horn is a “guarantee”. Just check out all of the pictures and get on a plane and get there!!!!!
From the giant brown trout and steelhead of Lake Ontario to the wild trout of the West Branch of the Delaware, New York State has you covered. New York even has the most beautiful spring creek that I have fished to date. This is Spring Creek in Caledonia, just south of Rochester. Awesome stream with some beautiful stream bred brown trout. There are hundreds of rivers that are begging to be fished. Heck, even the most densely populated island in the World has a few famous spring creeks. The most famous would be the Connetquot.
Took a trip down to Tennessee with my good friend Torrey, who is the manager of Housatonic River Outfitters. We didn't get a ten pounder but it was a very interesting trip none the less!!!!!
