    Spring Creek 2-15

I managed to get in a few hours this evening after class on Spring Creek. Seems the run-off finally held off long enough to let the temps creep up a few degrees. The water level was absolutely perfect.

Sure enough the fishing was great. I managed about a dozen in 3 hours. The hot flies were the usual for wintertime....scuds and eggs. Most of the fish caught ranged from 10-14". While fishing a nice deep run, I hooked and landed 3 suckers on 3 straight casts. On my next drift I see the line stop at the same spot, jerk, and hook what I thought was another sucker. After being bulldogged in the faster stuff for what seemed like 20 minutes, I saw jaws thrashing that looked to be the size of a softball. Instantly made my knees weak and made my face pale...after nearly being spooled twice and a good 10 minute fight the fish was brought to net. Turned out to be the biggest non-great lakes brown of my life, I used my rod to get an estimate and my guess was around 26-27". Unfortunatly I was fishing solo, and had no camera, or even a phone to take any pics. It stinks but, im sure I won't forget this one. Immediately after releasing the fish i ran back to the car and grabbed my phone "just in case" I ran into the same fish again to take a pic...lol. Heres a few pics from later on....

Are you going to be there tomorrow? Alain and I will be fishing there! If you wanted to meet up for a little bit that would be cool... We will have a camera for you!!! PM me if you're interested. I can show you a few flies that I use that people overlook when fishing there.

26-27" is a HUGE trout for Spring Creek, congrats. Would loved to have seen that fish porn. I'm sure you have in image permanently burned into your brain though, right? I like Spring Creek, it's such a nice stream.
