I went up to the KLG with my best buddy RCKRego and we had a great two hours there this afternoon. The NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife were out in full force clearing the road for a FRIDAY 3/23 STOCKING as reported by on of their employees...
Water was gin clear and flowing at about 130 which was a great flow. We caught some really nice fish, not a ton, but really nice fish for NJ. All holdovers. They fought real well. I caught a really nice Bow, about 16 inches on the net on a cream yellow microegg...
Regan had the catches of the day. He caught all on a size 18 ptail with no flash. The bwo's were out and he went right for the ptail and the fish went right for his line. He caught this 17" bow, measured on the net.
The beauty of the day came when Regan started high line nymphing over a boulder. I didn't think a Brookie would make it all winter, but I was wrong. Regan caught this nice 18" Brook Trout on the drift.
All in all, it was a great way to spend a working day. We are excited for more fish, but bummed we might miss out on quality fish like this.
Hope to see you all out soon!

really nice fish guys!!!! i can't believe how nice that brook trout looks. regan got you today justin >the experience got the grasshopper. those brook trou were really fat to start but that fish is in nice shape! it survived the winter and it looks like it went to the gym as well! also it is nice to see our fishing license money work plowing the roads for the new batch to come ;D ;D
That first bow really had a set of shoulders on it. I was surprised. God I love that river. I must say though. Justin and I used to get skunked everytime we went. Or we'd pull one or two out. After I saw Aaron fishing and catching fish like every third cast, I asked him what he was using. His answer was to show us how to fish. Ever since then I've had much greater success with my fishing. Who knows how long it would have taken to figure it out. Thanks Aaron!
In much less fantastic news, the road along the SBR in the KLG is not closed. So, the fishery will have to suffer yet another year of being hammered througout its length. Man I wish they'd just shut that road down. The fish might actually be able to reproduce in there. And the water quality would certainly improve.
Can we transplant some giant insects on there so those trout grow bigger faster?
Aaron, can I get a highsticking/tightlining lesson for around some of those boulders?
