i am sure that it was a shocker for the trout to go from 50 degree nice slow hatchery water to a near freezing environment. i am sure that the fish are adjusting then. did you try any nymphs like eggs or worms? sometimes the new trout cant help themselves from taking those two fly patterns.

    Re: Salmon river

I've had some good days there in March, but I've had some very slow ones too. The closer you get to Opening Day and beyond the faster the fishing gets. The Salmon warms quicker than most streams in the state, and tends to fish better 'cuz of that. I've gotten temps Opening Day week in the mid 50's, and needless to say, the fishing was fast and furious. After the opener, I believe they stock the Fly Fishing area every week thru the end of May. It gets a ridiculous amount of trout in the C&R section, and lots of big ones. I've taken them to 7# there, and friends have caught them up to 10# and beyond. Breeder city! Lol. Great early season trout stream though, and one of the prettiest in CT.
