what flies should work there on this Sunday for the fresh stocked brookies
Mike
just a reminder all trout streams with the exception of the TCAs are closed today.
the tcas are on the following rivers
pequest river
toms river
paulinskill river
south branch of the raritan
pequannock river
these areas should recieve new fish this week starting today.
on another note the pequest river TCA becomes catch and kill on opening day. get there and fish before the fish grow legs and walk out on chains on the opener.

use egg patterns, red san juan worms, prince nymphs almost any generic nymph will get them. also, i fish that you will do better below the bridge. if you really want to clean up... go past the hatchery on 46 and look for the clearing. this is an easy place for the people stocking to get to the river. they put a ton over there. also catch as many as you can. you will be doing everyone a favor. the more we catch before the opener means that they will be a little more skittish on the opener. if they get caught a few times that might keep a few more fish in the river for us to catch later on.

Im going on Saturday now and will try those spots and have you ever fished the Bushkill creek in the bushkill ares in PA

if you look under pa mike i did a post that was just for you to help you out and answer some of your questions.
I'm supposed to be picking up my setup tomorrow. Depending on what time I finish with that, I'm going to swing to Pequest afterwards. Hopefully I can post a good report afterwards.
you the setup for tight line nymphing. try dapping some of the deeper pockets. you will catch trout like a vacuum cleaner. when you get to go to a larger river strike indicator nymph with it.... you will crush them.
What do you mean by tight line nymphing? Weight and no indicator or is there more to it?
You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish.
trout5 you are right... i was talking about no indicator and a good amount of weight. you are almost dragging the flies along slowly through the pocket water. that long rod would be perfect for that type of nymphing situation.
That sounds very effective. How high above the fly do you recommend the weight? i have used a similar technique with a two fly rig and it worked great but only in pocket water when you can get relatively close to the fish. i didn't realize you could pull it that slow through the pockets. How do you feel the takes? I imagine that it takes some sublety.
