Those of you who think tougher gun control laws are the answers. You need to go to the south side of Chicago or Washington DC to see firsthand how some of the toughest gun laws in the country are not working!

BTW the Swiss law is because of the fact that they do not have a standing Army but a militia. All men are given an weapon and military training after high school. That is not exactly the same as the gun proliferation we have here. I wont debate the right to own weapons here; there is common sense gun law and there is what we have...whatever law we put on the books will only serve to make it a little bit harder for people to get weapons of mass destruction but it wont stop the truly evil/criminal ones from getting what they want. I think if we got the economy rolling along people would generally be happier..and there would be less violence but I just a middle aged trout bum/insurance agent so what do I know.

If you look at the total number of legally sold firearms including those that are considered assault rifles you'd find that an extremely small number of those are actually used to commit a crime.

Most of the weapons used to commit crimes are brought into the country along with drugs or stolen from homes or business and then end up on the street. People with criminal records can't obtain guns legally so they get them illegally and then there is zero regulations.

Making anything illegal just creates a black market and where there is lots of money to be made people will take the chance to make a huge profit or these illegal items stronger laws don't deter these criminals and they know that the law enforcement community has limited resources at their disposal.

The problem with all this is that no one can look at someone and predict what they will do in the future, especially if that person has a clean record and no history of mental instability, unless your psychic. There will always be evil people who do evil things and taking the rights away from sane rational people just punishes the innocent to try and hamper the guilty ones.

You can not legislate safety because you can't control every situation and every variable, nor can you predict who or where someone will strike next, or even why. Man invented the gun and he can use it for good or bad, the gun is only an inanimate object, once they use it to hurt or kill someone they have crossed the line and must be punished severely.

    Thanks, Roger

I don't think we need to worry about honest people not being able to have a hunting rifle, or a hand gun. Oh, and Fishsomemore. GO AWAY.

Chris given your condition and your current position I would think you would be all about socialism? Did you hit the lottery? I'm surprised to hear your current spouting out here and on facebook.
