Mike and I fished the river today from about 1-530pm and found the fishing to be slow. This didn't really detract from a great day however, as we both got to chat at length with our favorite Housy pals, Aaron and Torrey. There guys are a wealth of information and I always learn something new from them (thanks!).
As of this writing, the river is on the rise, mostly due the rain in Mass. The flow actually increased about 15% while we were there, and this often shuts down the fishing. We did manage a few small trout and bass, using nymphs and streamers. We fished and walked pretty hard, all the while being photographed countless times by the leaf-peeping tourists (especially upstream). We had a nice downpour for a half hour, and quickly cast the streamers, but few hookups. The water has a slight color, foliage is just past peak.
Once the river reaches a static height and we get past Monday's 80 deg heat, I am sure the fishing will improve; the areas we fished are loaded with quality trout, just not much biting today. When I fished last Wednesday, I caught fish from all the same areas. We saw very few Olives hatching today.
