Dr Bob,
What do you mean by Spey fish, which only amounts to the nature of the fly cast, in its true form used for Atlantic Salmon fishing all be it has become popular here in the US for steelhead and Pacific salmon.
Ok, do l use single handed rod maneuvers as same, close but not exactly same so far as the cast for salmon with a two handed fly rod.
In the case of fishing down stream with wets and soft hackles it is a short range technique while in the case of fishing for Atlantics it may well be a issue 30 to 40 yards which you are not going to do with a single handed rod of any weight Spey cast wise.
