With the noodle rod you might want to float fish with a Berkeley pink worm, trout bead set up or any kind of fly hatch you note in the area. Smaller stoneflies might work, midges, muddler minnow, etc... If you pm me I can direct you to some sites that will help you rig up for float fishing and or how to rig to fish a bead.

If your nymphing with the fly rod, change it up regularly while watching for whats hatching and make sure your getting down to them. I'd bet estaz or other egg patterns will work too as the Spring spawn will insure eggs are floating down stream.

I live about 60 min from most of the Ontario tribs you list and about 75 min from the Erie tribs. In most of these streams the fishing is not what it was 3-5 years ago particularly the Erie tribs. If you stick to the Ontario tribs you will probably catch more fish but be prepared for 1) plenty of competition as this date you speak of is the traditional Spring Run Peak. It has been a weird winter as we have had very limited snowfall so in most places there is none right now and barring a huge snow there will be no runoff to color the streams and give peak flow. Your success will probably depend on rain, how much, and how often. Early March is also about the time the suckers start to run and I have done better with those patterns in a variety of colors, Oregon cheese being a must have. If you are also prepared for the other types of fishing you list you will also be better prepared. I only fly fish. In terms of catches be happy if you get 3-6 fish a full day of fishing, but it really depends on the state of the run and stream conditions, with the crazy winter, nothing is a sure thing.

Hi Lipripper, just came back from the Oak yesterday 2/19/12, was there from the 16th. Done really well using John Nagy's scrambled egg pattern. Did land quite a few browns from 2 to 5 lbs all on the scrambled egg. Did not get any steelhead on eggs or nymphs but landed a few on black tube fly leech patterns. The Oak water level was perfect. I use a 10' 6" 5wt and have no problem landing any size fish on the Oak. Good luck.
