I have switched to packs, if I hike a lot I will use a camelbak backpack. I find with a vest I was carrying way too much stuff 95% of the time I normally don't need to carry 5 fly boxes and 7 tools of tippets. I had stuff I had in the vest for years I never used like leaders. I am actually going to move to a lanyard.
