come back here!
i am sure many other streamer fishers have had fish smack their flies and not hook up. do any of you guys have a method to target the fish that swipes and misses? i was fishing a small new england stream the other day and swung a sculpzilla jr through a nice run, had a good fish smash my fly and miss. i couldn't move the fish again....

sometimes if you give them an hour or so you can get them to come back. on certain days, the fish will take multiple runs at a fly, but very often they only only take one.

A Kelly Galloup article I read said that big fish attack head on. Maybe they are doing that and dropping the fly after they see or taste it is not real. Just a thought.
I have shortened the tails on some of my flies. If I feel they are short striking, I will put one of the short tails on.

Don't rule out the possibility that you gave the fish too good a look at your bait. If your retrieve is slow, they can make a last minute decision not to commit. One thing to try is speeding up the retrieve. If you have pauses, then shorten the pauses a bit too.
