    Guapo,

It all comes down to the water your fishing and the time of the year. Here on the Snake the water gets extremely deep during the spring with a lot of current. The extra length is useful to shoot the line easier and get the line down. It's all about the depth you want to fish and the distance you need to cast.

The big Teeny style 24' sink tips are great for targeting fish in big deep runs that are typical of steelhead, tierra del fuego sea run browns or even spawning browns on big water like the Yellowstone or Missouri. I wouldn't want a 24' sink for most western streamer fishing as it is tough to use this type of line for repetitive cast and strip fishing...it is better as a down and across swing line with some stripping. For fishing smaller buckets I would go with either a floating line with a lead eye streamer or one of the Rio streamer tips (shorter sink tip). I personally fish floating lines when streamer fishing most of the time with the exception of the early spring or late fall when fish are in the main runs and not moving as much. When fish are hitting bait fish they tend to move into the shallows to hunt sculpins and small whitefish or trout. Most of the 23"+ trout I have landed in Montana have been in water less than 3 feet deep. Fish the shallower productive water in low light like early morning, just before dusk, after dark or during wet rainy days. The big deep holding water is not necessarily where the big fish are feeding.

    Good advice right there^
Floating lines aren't really my thing when it comes to streamer fishing, A sink tip with an unweighted fly like a swimmy jimmy is so killer in the shallows, plus the visual takes are what make streamer fishing bad ass in my mind. But from fishing off a boat I really do like floating lines cause you can pick them up off the water and shoot them back to the bank very fast and accurate. As far as big water goes the 24 ft. on a switch rod does have its place with trout fishing on rivers like the snake.
