    MONTAUK Stripers and Albies

I'm heading out to Montauk on Wednesday for three days of Striper and Albie fishing. Can't wait to hook up with a few "speedsters". Anyone on this board ever fish Montauk? This will be my tenth year. I split the trip up with two charters on a small 23' center console and some surf fishing.

its' not a hard place to figure out...just go to the point...the back side....west of the inlet can be very good near the old harbor for wade fishing w/o a boat

Never fished west of the inlet. Thanks for the info I will give it a shot. I usually fish west of Camp Hero. Walk down towards the old Warhol estate. I've been lucky with the fish pushing bait up against the shore. I usually bring both a spinning rig and a fly rod. I have had the fish close enough for the fly rod. Crowds are light down there due to the long walk. I've spoken to a few locals and they seem to think the fish will turn on this week. This is the earliest trip I've taken so I hope they do. I'll post my results when I get back....

    Quick report.
The concession stand did the trick from the surf on Wed. afternoon. We had steady action on Stripers to 32" and big bluefish. They were far enough out that a surf rod was the only option. Thursday and Friday it was all Albies from the boat. Fish were out in the rips on Friday and on the north side on Thursday. A couple of fish were 10lbs plus. Most were in the 8lb range. If you have never felt the pull of a False Albicore you need to practice your double hall and get to Montauk.
