went out to fish on the ashokan for smallies as the esopus is just to high. i caught 2 huge smallies 3-4 pounders. but its the one i didnt catch that has me puzzeled. now for bass fishing my leader is not tapered its 15 pound test then 6 pound as a 30 inch tippet and an improved clench knot wrapped 15 times. now with that set up i could easily horse those fish around and i even tried on one of the fish just to test it. i was fishing with one of my own popper creations and smack this fish hit it so hard you couldnt see the fish with the water it splashed up around itself. naturally i set the hook (and im gunna use a clock to give you reference here) to the 1 oclock position my rod tip was behind and in one motion the fish made me bow like a tarpon to the 9 position and in that same motion snapped my leader above the knot. now im that leader can with stand a 4 pound smallie for 5 minutes and not this fish for more 3 seconds how big was it? thats y its called fishing not catching fish but i wish i knew what this fish looked like
or if it was even a bass.
