    Summertime = Terrestrial Time!

    Today at work, the weather outside was so beautiful that I had to keep the office door open to take it in. Then I heard that oh-so-familiar clicking sound... the sound of those giant, clumsy hoppers fluttering through the air like a B52 bomber!

    It dawned on me: it's about hopper/dropper time! I went outside to collect a sample, and from there, at lunch I went home and tied up a few of these:

    A few pieces borrowed here and there from other tyers, but as far as I'm concerned it came fresh from my head! I can't wait to give this guy a try around here in Colorado, and then in 3 weeks in Montana.

    Anyone else fishing terrestrials yet? Wanna post some pics of some cool patterns yall use?

    Not quite yet. Finally made it out fishing today after a loooong runoff. Went to the Arkansas just below Salida. The river is still up but the edges are very fishable which helps because I think 90% of the fish in the river are within 2 feet of the banks. Lots of float trips heading out but I didnt see another wade angler which suits me just fine. Picked and poked at all soft water spots along the banks for about 6 hours. Tried the hoppers (Charlie boy etc.) but didnt get a positive response from more that a couple fish. Tried large Yellow Stimmies kinda lame on that one too. Dropped the size of the Stimmie to about 16 and the fish started getting on it. They may have taken it for a Yellow Sallie or a tan caddis not sure which but they were on it. I went through all of my 16's and 14's due to the nature of the fishing...tight to the bank and with the water still above normal there were plenty of places to leave the flies. All in all it was a great day the wind was managable and the fish cooperative. Never bothered with a dropper as the fishing was fast enough not necessitate that type of complication. If you are in the west the last gasps of runoff can produce some really fine fishing.

    Yeah the Blue has been fishign that way as well. Cars patrolling both sides of the river trying to get a piece their favorite highwater spots, which I guess are everyone's favorites...

    Is the Ark off-color or just running high and clear at this point?

    Heading back east this week, to do some stripah fishing on the Vineyahd! Can't wait. Then off to Montana in three weeks!!!!!

    Nice hopper, looks original to me. Good luck at the Vineyard and leave me some fish in MT.

    It's just about terrestrial time here in Eastern ID, yesterday I hit up the South Fork with the promise to myself to only experiment with foam flys. I had a few very agressive hits and countless fish rose to see what the hell was floating in the water. The water is still a little stained and high compared to last year but very wadeable. In the next few weeks I suspect the hoppers and beatles to be coming out in full swing. For now I guess I'll just have to fish the PMD hatches, I don't mind (;

    Fat Albert! Awesome fly, super floatant, pretty much all we used 2 years ago when we floated The Green section A in Utah about this time of year...

    I'm hoping to find some agressive risers in Montana next week..... CAN'T WAIT!!!
