i'm hopeful that some of you fine folks can chime in on this)))
'fish a black wolly bugger under the hatch'
'fish a size 8 or 10 wulff, they'll gobble it up'.
'fish wet flies dressed white throughout the entire hatch'.
'don't bother witht the duns, they don't dry their wings on the water, they just take off. fish large spinner patterns'
there seems to be a lot of input on this. im headed to the housy for 4 days mid-august to hopefully fish this hatch. i know there are some regulars here who could probably weigh in. i'm not asking for your secrets...wait, yes i am. No, seriously though, it would be great to have a discussion about this, b/c this hatch is right around the corner for a lot of us northeasterners. what say you?

I use a size 10 White Wulff trailed around 20 inches by a size 10 white spinner. Go 4X on the tippet. As the hatch gets going the Wulff works very well and once its really dark and the spinner fall occurs, it will act as an awesome strike indicator! Try that tandem out. You can't go wrong. You have my word on that![]()
hey thanks a lot Aaron
You know what's strange about that hatch, we have never had great success using a nymph that imitates a white fly. My friend Eddie and I have wondered why that's like that so many times. It's odd. The behavior of the fish is much different during that hatch. I am sure that water temps and water flow pays a large role in what happens.
Warpig,
You're welcome anytime!
I hope you don't mind but, I am going to try that combo also. I have tried to hit that hatch a few times over the years and never timed it right. Warpig let us know how you do please. Thanks for the tip Aaron.

this is all great info. i've thrown white mayfly (adult) patterns while whites were coming off and hooked up, but i've never seen them come off in droves as I hear they do on the housy. i'll definitely take your advice, Aaron, and i'll also spin up a few white softies if the fish are being real snobby.
Reports say the hatch is on.....I think I need to try out the new Scott S4 this weekend. Housy here I come.
