    1. access
    2. crowds (Farmington)
    3. lack of DEP leadership regarding aggressive pursuit of easements. In Wisconsin, for example, access is not an issue due to proactive easement aquisition.
    4. poaching (lower housy case in point)
    5. summer flows - not sure how much is due to too many people tapping into the aquifers, but I hear it's substantial.
    6. not enough lady sunbathers :'(
    I'm not a fisherman. I'm a fishing machine!

    My wife.
I spent most of my money on fishing equipment, beer and whiskey, the rest I just wasted.

are you serious??? banning hunting and fishing?? first the land is private and pay to fish and now they are going to tell you no fishing? what is their reasoning behind fishing bans? i hope that does not come here. i will have to do some serious poaching ;D ;D

Withouy question it is water and habitat quality. So much of what we are all doing in just living our modern lives, puts so many contaminents into the eco-systems at all levels.

Loss of suitable habitat is our biggest problem. I am thankful for the army of dedicated individuals fighting development and monitoring our waters. We all need to be more aware; stewards and streamkeepers alike.

To read a heartfelt essay about this issue, consider the last chapter entitled "Is That All There Is?" from A.K. Best's book "Fly Fishing with A.K." He describes a 2001 trip to Labrador, fishing in the verdant moss, when he realized where the sport of fly fishing is really going. This passage is worth rereading a few times.

    Re: Bggest problems

public access is going to become the biggest problem facing fly fisherman in the next few years. also, development is going to kill some of the streams especially in the northeast. you are going to see more and more houses and less groundwater. the streams are going to be warmer and lower and this will be lethal to the trout in them. there is a ton of development in the state college area and many people around there are commenting that the streams are lower in the summers than they ever were. also, the little lehigh in allentown is a prime example. the river is lower in the summer and much colder in the winter this is because there is less groundwater going into the streams than there ever was.
