How about an Amadou pad ( or synthetic equivalent ) for drying out those CDC flies.
When I use mine, ( rinse off any fish-slime ) and one squeeze of the fly between the pads is all it takes.
I prefer snow shoe hare for ties that will be used on the larger, brawling rivers here in the west. Snow shoe hare floats like a cork and forever and does not seem to be the "crud" magnet that CDC becomes on some of the fluctuating tailwaters I fish here in CA. I still like the elegance of CDC patterns and have found this product to be the best for keeping it floating...

Amadou is a must for CDC, but I still love my rabbit's feet. In France it was all CDC though, so the pad got used often!
Does anyone us poly yarn or poy propoline in their flies?
Fish, sleep, eat, repeat.
I like to use black polypro on wings for dusk fishing...I will do a half poly half deerhair wing occaisionally. its a great fly for fishing at dusk and visibility in heavy glare is a problem. I ve also been using poly in parachute and comparadun wings for years...it floats pretty good but I dont know if its any better than a hair wing. I like it when i want to tie smaller flies...got a little more control over it than natural hair on small flies.

I have been working on some Brachycentridae/Amiocentrus for Fall, incorporating both CDC and Snowshoe hare:
CDC Spent Caddis (Top view) Jim Schollmeyer
HOOK: TMC 900 BL, #16-#20
THREAD: Tiemco 16/0, Brown
EGG SAC: Bright Green Dubbing…I like Spirit River Fine and Dry Chartreuse
BODY: Dark Olive Dubbing…I use Stalcup’s Micro Dry Fly BWO, Olive for Eastern Sierra waters
WING: Dark Dun CDC or color to match natural
SNOWSHOE HARE SPENT CADDIS…(Top view) Jim Schollmeyer
HOOK: TMC 900BL, #16-#20
THREAD: Black Uni. 8/0 or Tiemco 16/0 Black or Brown
EGG SAC: Bright Green Dubbing (Optional)
BODY: Dark Olive Dubbing or color to match natural
WING: Dark Dun Snowshoe Hare’s Foot
Either of these patterns may be pulled under, during the drift or swing, to mimic the female swimming under the surface. The difference is that the CDC pattern will retain air bubbles in the CDC barbules while the snowshoe hare will not...In a recent exchange with a noted tier on another forum (he was looking for a material that could be chopped up and added to the abdomen/thorax to imitate naturally occurring bubbles -gas - and also a material which could be mixed in with the wings to achieve this purpose) I did some nosing around and forwarded a suggestion to him...I will be tying up some of the snowshoe Caddis patterns incorporating this material and will try them out here with my chief tester...
I will also be using it on this guy, in the underwing...
SNOOP CADDIS EMERGER…
HOOK: Daiichi 1130, TMC 2487, #16-#20
THREAD: Lagartun, 74 Denier, Olive
SHUCK: Amber Zelon
ABDOMEN: Working Thread
RIB: Opal mirage accent – Wapsi...not the spooled type
UNDER WING: Sparkle Emerger Yarn, Gray
OVER WING: Dun Snowshoe Hare – pulled upwards and clipped at an angle
HEAD: Fine and Dry, Callibaetis
and, in this pattern, in the abdomen and mixed in with the wing...
SNOSHU X2…
HOOK: Gamakatsu C15-BV, #18-#20
THREAD: Benecchi Euro Thread 12/0, Tan (and, yes they make it in this size in TAN)
SHUCK: Amber Zelon
RIB: Midge Flash, Pearl
ABDOMEN: Mix Olive Hare’s Ear and Olive Antron
WING: Dark Dun Snowshoe Hare
HEAD: Tan Emerger Dubbing, Nature’s Spirit
Report to follow on the results...
