Re: Do you think we use enough cdc??
yes!
JP Dessaigne is a great fly tyer. But he doesn't tie realistics patterns. His flies are always imaginated by him. you cannot find a march brown patterns for example.
But his tying techniques are great, especially on hare and cdc.
I like the way he ties bodies...
I'll try to find other links for cdc.
But be sure this kind of emergers (cdc wings) are efficient: I tie them in brown, cream, olive, and hare's hear.
differents colors of cdc for the wings. That's classic but so efficient!

Re: Do you think we use enough cdc??
My head is swimming in new ways to apply a great deal of these techniques to my local bugs. I'm really enjoying winding the cdc on a post and then pulling over it over the thorax like the more common hackle stacker. Really nice.. Now if I can just get that drift right ;D Thanks for sharing

Re: Do you think we use enough cdc??
my pleasure...
cdc can be used for everything. caddis larva, scuds, etc...
On educated fishes that can makes the difference, cause as told Aaron, that gives life to the fly.
I tied a lot of scuds patterns which weren't working on the toughest fishes. When I find the cdc patterns, that was a big change! Suddenly big mamas came after it...
for dry, you have to choose where to use it.
another tip: for dry with cdc... put an everlast on your vest. because when cdc is wet, that's very long to dry.
so you just pull the everlast with the hook, and play the guitar...
vibrating the string, and that dries the cdc perfectly.
I don't know how to explain it in english...
have a look there...

Re: Do you think we use enough cdc??
The movement is important. I Watched a pod of fish feeding last season and they would not take a bug untill the wings popped and the legs wiggled to get out of the nymph.... Needless to say my standard hackled dries had no effect on these fish.
You guys seem to think of everything on that side of the pond.

Re: Do you think we use enough cdc??
well, we must! fishing is very different. We don't have so much fishes as in your streams. So when you meet a fish, you have to find the solution, because finding another fish will be tough...
