    Re: Stroft monofilament

I was joking Andy not making fun...I've been trout fishing with a bendy rod for about 30 years..I've seen alot of stuff come and go...as for tippet I will not use flouro ...its bad for the environment so I dont think it belongs in my arsenal any more. I have switched from RIO to Sci Angler this year...the break strength is good it a tad more limp than rio and I have found it to be consistent and reliable for knots. That being said I used some stroft last year and the year before...good stuff...especially good for nymphing because I think its more abraision resistant than most other mono I have used. Its pretty limp too...not vastly different than Rio or Sci Angler in that department but I used the same euro rigs several times until I lost them on rocks...Blue Quill here in colorado stocks Stroft from time to time...when it was time for me to restock I gave the Sci Angler stuff a go on a guide's recommendation....
I have had actually very good luck with orvis ss tippet too. I think it has the best knot strength of them all. The limpest of all is Umpqua in my opinion...not as strong as the others but very close.

Hmmmm.... I've found my next new invention... eco-friendly fluoro!!! Probably won't happen, but I have a feeling that tippet will begin to make a shift that way. Could be pretty interesting when/how that happens.

    Andy -

I have been using Rio's suppleflex tippet now for two years and it's great and inexpensive. I don't even use flurocarbon anymore because most of the time I'm presenting the fly first. I started using this tippet on The upper D and it has really proven it's worth. Even in clear low water during the sulphur hatches when the fish seem to be ultraselective up there. I've landed many trout over 20" this year with the 6X rio suppleflex.
