You have to love the old standbys. We overlook them in favor of more "innovative" fly patterns, but more often than not I find that those types of flies are just what I need!
After working with John Deere this evening, I headed out to the Lower Farm. Arrived around 7:40pm. Not much surface activity so I started nymping. Tried BHPT, HE, Prince, Zug bug, and buggers with not luck. Thinking about previous posts re: micro nymphs, I tied on sz18 BHHE took two brookies in fast water. Soon thereafter the surface activity picked up.
Tried Sulfur, PED, and Olives without any luck. Changed to ISO and fish were on. Caught another four bronzed back trout, three browns and one rainbow. One of the browns and rainbow were fat mama's at 16".

hate to admit it but the prince in its many forms takes a good amount of subsurface fish for me. i often tie a large one on as an anchor...and it gets fish...who knows??
