I got up ran some errands. I was going to go home and take a nap and I just could not get off the Parkway. I had [...]

I used a nine foot 4x leader so it was minimal. Larger diameter tippet goes a long way to preventing line twists due to the hackled dry flies used to fish dry/dropper.

He was asking because he knows that I tie the dry fly on a tag end. If I went hook eye right off of the leader there would be no problem.

You should have been there Wednesday.

That's the way l also fish my dry droppers as a detached tag, l am more than convinced that the fly animates way better and that the percentage of hook ups is greater to the dry.
Tangles are not a issue if first you build the leader system right and secondly you slow the casting stroke down.
In fact l have used 3 dries fished this way, which is a common means for stillwater fishing, just as good for the river. Try this one during a caddis hatch and you will have some fun, often two fish at a time, sometimes 3.
