    Clearing your mind

I have found that when I am fishing with a clear head and really focused I do pretty good catching fish. it's times when I have other things on my mind like work, kids, girlfriend, finances etc.. that I really suck. I'm wondering what you competition guys do when it's time to start fishing to clear your mind of the outside distractions and really zero in on fishing?

You know what... You really don't! I just hope that life is in a status quo at the moment of the event. If I had to compete tomorrow I would be in good shape. I am very happy with things at the moment. However, if I had to compete on May 14th after learning that I was laid off from my teaching position, I would not do so well. We are human beings, and unfortunately emotions, good or bad, play a major role in your result. Of course this is only an opinion and some might be able to achieve a more zen like state than myself.

I've noticed another distraction that can really screw up your focus. Once in a while, when I feel I've lost my edge, I realize that it's because I really need to take a leak. Wading out of the river to an eco-friendly spot and dropping your waders is a pain, but sometimes it's necessary to get back on top of your game.

Well you got your next teaching gig in the same school system already. That didn't take you long. You never went on the unemployment roles. I give you credit for that. They ought to put some private investigators on some of the free loader unemployment collectors. They don't even look for a job and treat it like an entitlement. Now they have given them a ridiculous extension while the rest of us work to pay for it .
