Dobbs,
They are cold tailwaters, sparkling clean with no Didymo. Bring your clean gear, please!!!

I just received my DEP permit and i have a couple of questions about the Croton.
1. What are the water temps like? Is it kinda like a tailwater?
2. Is there any Didymo in it? Just wanna know which pair of waders to wear...The clean waters or the Didymo Specials.
Thanks in advance and if anyone has any tips lemme kno!

Doober, I always stop in at bedford Sportsman for the run down, plus they sell maps, its a big water system
I may have to stop in there for a map...i was trying to figure out a spot to start and there really is just a ton of water over there

I have not witnessed didymo on that stream. Even though the Esopus has it, I think that it dies out on it's way through the aquaduct. I know that didymo does not grow in the dark. It must die off before it gets there. It might still pop up due to anglers not disinfecting their gear. Keep the stuff clean, just in case, better to be safe than sorry...
I strongly suggest you buy "fly fishing the croton watershed" - its put out by the croton watershed TU Chapter. I've read this book a few times and its written by the guys who know best. These tailwaters are excellent....and since this summer the freestones are shot...except for 2 trips to the upper delaware - they have been my streams of choice. Ditto the Didymo comments.
Doober, let's get out there soon. It's the same distance for me as it is to get to the 'Sink, and probably not much more for you.
Lemme know when you got a free day tim, and we'll do it
