Help Choosing a Nyphing Rod

Hi all...I need some help deciding what nymphing rod I should purchase. Just starting out...been dry flying for 15 years. I have narrowed things down to 10' #4 Hardy Marksman, Grey streamlite and the Sage Z-axis. I was hoping to get something all purpose for different styles however as I do my research that doesn't seem likely.

Welcome to the site. You will get some info here regarding your question. It is often an unsolvable dilemma trying to pick a nymphing rod that will do everything. Depends ofcourse on how you want to nymph fish. Slinging an indicator and shot will have different rod requirements than long line euro nymphing. However, Aaron may be able to suggest a rod which may meet your multiple needs adequately.

I asked Aaron the same question a couple of months back and for Euro type of nymphing he recommended the Hardys. I have been using it since then and must say at is a really nice rod. It casts beautifully, has a fast recovery, and is comfortable.. Overall I really like this rod. Hope this helps.

Hands down, the Hardy Marksman. The hook setting power and casting is the best. I did a little denonstation of the rod's ability to keep hooks in fish at the outing. I am sure that some of the guys there can elaborate

One of the things Aaron demonstrated at the outing was the hook set capability of two rods. One being the Hardy Marksman. Given equal amount of applied force the Hardy rod transmitted considerably more energy to the hook point than the other rod.

By far the Hardy Marksman 4wt 10ft is the best for Euro type nymphing, you wont regret it..

How does the Marksman compare to the Streamflex in terms of action? I have the 10' 3wt Streamflex and it seems just a bit slow for me.
