Heron will be featuring my Golden Stone in next months eagerly awaited FOTM
Golden Stones have always been an above average producer for me, and during March on the Housatonic, they are tough to beat. I've had luck with quite a few different patterns over the years. Anyone have some favorites they want to share? I like a pattern that captures the essential qualities of the real insect- darker back, yellow underside, flattened shape, prominent legs(w/ movement), and a rib for segmentation. #8's & 10's are my most used sizes. There are lots of these bugs in the rivers I fish the most- the Housy, the Farmington, and all the Catskill streams I fish such as the Delaware system, the Beaverkill & Willowemoc.

If the line ain't tight, ya ain't doin it right
I'm quivering with anticipation..... Eddie- you ever use Scud Back on your stones or other nymphs (other than on scuds)? I've got brown in the shop now, thought it might have some application for Czech nymphs, but now I'm also thinking about Mayflies & Stones too. Think Skin is making some cool new colors/patterns- they have stippled ones they call "Fly Specks", and they do one in that series called "Czech Speck", specifically for tying Czech style nymphs. It's kinda funky & clever. So u gonna give us some hints about you new stonefly pattern, or am I going to have to toss & turn all night in anticipation until you cough it up?

HEY Slo-
You said your going to post that nymph last night?
he e mailed me and said he is near completion. so its going to be up in the next week. i know the suspense is killing all of us. i want to see it too. he said its easy to tie and when we are talking stoneflies and easy to tie ... i like it. most stonflies and not fast and easy ties.
Did I say it was easy?
This whole takin pictures thing is not so easy :-[
Actually i tied a bunch the last couple days, I would have done a lot more but I keep getting calls and emails from people wanting me to solve their chemistry problems >
I dont know if I'll make y'all wait til the 24th; I thought that was my due date. I've never been one to hand in my homework early.

All flies slow and difficult ties, for me. My humpies are lumpies and I tie unusual usuals javascript:void(0); But I love this stuff.
you are right the taking picture thing is the hardest part. sometimes i have to take up to 5 pics to get it right and then the next step fisve more. i dont know how the professional fly tiers do it..... rough >![]()
