Simms G3 Vest

Anyone have this vest? I was looking into replacing my pack with a vest because it never seems to sit right on my shoulder. This one caught my eye, but looks stiff and bulky. I haven't seen one in person, so I haven't been able to get a feel on it.

it has some molded pockets but otherwise its similar to the guide...just a lot more $$, I wouldn't say it was stiff but it does have the molded pockets. I am not sure why it has them...I guess you could say its easier to put boxes back in. The guide vest has rougly the same exact layout for $70 less. I have had a guide vest for over 10 years ...the velcro is worn so I am looking to replace it soon. I may well go back to another guide vest.

Sherpa...just find a kind soul to sew some new velcro on. 10 years is a lot of mojo....

Hi Tim,
I have had the G-3 for several years now. I do like it. You can carry a lot of stuff and it is easy to access. One negative issue I had is the sewn in D ring strap for the net ripped out from normal use of an orvis magnetic net release. It is poorly attatched and to me is a big enough reason not to get this vest if you are considering other options.

My net loop fell off as well. I took it to a tailor and has them reattach it. Since then, it's been great. But for 200 bucks, it should be bullet proof!

I probably will get some new velcro...its one of the last USA made vests Simms had and earlier this year I sent it back to get some pockets resewn which they did....reluctantly...they offered me a new vest for wholesale price but I didnt bite...I figured they had to have SOMEONE at the shop that could put a new zipper in...or resew the old one which is all it needed...i doubt they would replace the velcro...lol..I dont know of anyone with a sewing machine off hand but ill come up with something.

Sherpa...you have a good cobbler in town? If so...they are your resource. They either have a heavy duty machine or know who does.

Are you selling the vest or the jacket Aaron? what's the size?
