Login process loses track of which thread I am viewing.

Here's the scenario.

1. Check RSS Feed for TPO
2. Click on interesting thread.
3. Start reading the postings.
4. Notice that every post has avatars and signature and extra crap.
5. Realize that I'm not logged into TPO so it doesn't recognize my profile settings.
6. Hit the login button at the top of the screen.
7. Automatically jump to some welcome screen that I don't need.
8. Forum software loses track of the thread that I was looking at in the first place.
9. Do a bunch of stuff to get back to where I was in the first place.

Either,
don't ever log me out unless I ask to be logged out. As in never.
or
after I login, please jump back to the posting that I was viewing.
