    Re: Tangled dropper

thanks for the good thread here. what i don't understand is how the orvis knot is used to join two individual sections of tippet together. Does the orvis knot work because a perfection loop is tied into the upper section? The orvis (or I plan to use the davy) knot are knots that require an eye or a loop to go through. The surgeon's or the blood knot are for joining mono without an eye or a loop. Thanks for any help here.

Gooddrift, I think you have the orvis knot and the "orvis tippet" knot confused. The link in a previous post will show you both.
I switched to the Davy knot (faster) after using the regular orvis knot for a while.

I did forget to add here that the distance you have droppers spaced apart is also important, you do not want then too close. So far as wet fly rigs rarely less than 20 ins and up to 3ft, l may also say have tail and mid dropper at 20 and the top dropper 4 ft above, all depends on how l wish to present the flies being used at the time.

Nymph rigs may differ as here l may wish to fish say a sowbug at point and a midge 15 ins above, again l will use a detached dropper and never the direct in line hook to hook system.
It is way less effective, make no mistake about that one.

Bottom line is at the end of the day down to casting technique, which may also be related to using a fly line with too much forward taper when multi rigs are used.

    Davy.
