After my trip to the Housy on Tuesday and the skunking i took, I had to sneak out last night after work to the Willi for some fish. The water level was down and it is super clear. Temps were in the upper 40s.

I hit the water at 6pm and had that stretch of river all to myself. I talked to a guy just finishing up who said the bite picked up after 2pm and he was nymphing. Before that, sloooow. Seeing I only had a couple of hours I decide to fish buggers (small olive with some flash) with my sink tip line. i started out at one of my normal spots and picked up a fish right away. I continued to work up river and picked up fish all the way up. I landed a total of 10 browns, lost 3 and missed 3. i even picked up 2 while trolling (leaving my fly in the water and walking up stream to my next casting location). ;D some fish would hit the bugger as soon as it landed almost looking like top water action. Some hit it on the drift, some on the swing and a few on the strip. I don't think there was a wrong way to fish it last night.

I did see some fish rising but not sure what they were feeding on. There was a serious hatch of what I would guess to be midges (tiny little buggers), so thick that it looked like snow flurries but the fish that were rising were very deliberate and not that often.

Good luck to everyone this weekend. I will not be fishing, well in CT that is. I will be in NJ for some turkey hunting and shad fishing the Delaware. Enjoy the opener here in CT.
