Epic indeed! Wow, I can't wait to get over there to fish! The river conditions look terrific and the rainbows are beautiful. It is nice to know they wintered over so well.
I was admittedly nervous before today's trip with John. You never know what to expect from the Hous during the winter. We had some epic fishing from the get go! We had a slight lull mid-trip. The last spot was the place to be. It was on from the first cast. We hammered them until we left. All fish were caught on scuds and eggs.
Here are some pictures:
Haven't seen pics of this river lately have we?
Some bugs... ISO nymph and a sulphur type
Some sun!
Frozen rock...
The location
Do you think this fish wanted to bite?
Fishies...
Needless to say it was an epic trip!

Nice Fish!! Now those are some rainbows that can make your day! Any Browns?
Fish On!!!
Unfortunately not. I think that the rainbows were just getting to the flies first. There was one spot where most of the casts that we made hooked fish. If the rainbows did this well the browns did at least equally well. They will start to show up in the catches soon!
In the colder water the Rainbows always seem to be more active. Nice work!
Fish On!!!
glad someone had some luck out there today - I fished for about three hours, though using stones and caddis along with attractors and caught a bunch of stones. Just for interest, river temps were 33-34, and plenty of floating shelf ice.
We didn't take a water temp but I knew that had to be the temp. I was actaully standing on the shore watching John fish and instructing him. It was like watching a video game... Indicator would go down I would say get 'em and we did! When he got the fish close I would run up the shore to get around the shelf ice and into the river to net the fish. My hands were freezing from un-hooking fish... But who's complaining! I could not believe how cold I would get fropm standing in the water waist deep for even 10 minutes. He stood there for over an hour. When we were leaving he said, "I think my pipes are frozen!"
I went up there on saturday to stop and see torrey at the HRO and to check out the river. It was moving pretty good at corner hole when I saw it.
