    Pike on the fly....

Any diehard pike fisherman out there?

I am planning on kicking my pike fishing up a notch this season... I have taken pike up to about 3 feet, but would love some 40 plus inchers.. If there are any of you who are into these fun fish, speak up. I have seen some truly frightening pike on the Housy, and hope to target these monsters this year. I am really interested in wailing some good ones this season and upping my game. Nothing like taking those bad boys from the driftboat....and using the 8 weight on the river.....

I read an article in Fly Fish America on the upper Housy. Supposed to be fantastic. Great water to put the pontoon in.

The biggest pike I have caught were from the Connecticut River.

Find slow a eddy or backwater from Windsor to the sound and large pike will be resident.

wait till we go to the passaic.... you might have to wash your boat after we are done ;D ;D we can float this section from little falls to paterson... near where i teach. maybe the kids that i teach parents can do the shuttle for us. i am sure the kids will guard your truck. no one will mess with it >

    Re: Pike on the fly....

Ive only caught a few smaller pike on the fly rod, mostly by mistake. Ive taken manny with casting gear and bait.
However this year I plan on fishing exclusively with fly rod and reel. Not just for pike but all spicies around me. SM bass,Trout, walleye, pike, carp, and musky. In that order. I have descovered a lot of new patterns and even alterd a few saltwater patterns for pike.
I am currently working on makeing traces from piano wire, I just dont trust the wraps.
Most of the flyfishing for pike info I have found is from the other side of the pond.
Them limey english and austrians have been doing it for years carp too.
Flyfishing for thease fish has yet to take off in the states but with the fishing boom as of late it will not thake long till everyone is doing it.
I for one would like to be on the cutting edge of this "new" way of fishing, so this year its flys or nothing.

I'll work on getting a digi cam to post some pics/recipes of the flies I plan on useing.

Maybe a possable warm water section in the future??

yeah the warmwater selection is a possibility. i generally only fish for trout with the fly rod. i occassionally fish for small mouth bass while on the housy. i do know of some flies that work well for the bass/pike. yellow is usually a good color. the pike that i have caught from the passaic river were caught on a cone head with a rabbit strip tail and palmered rabbit strip for the body. its a very simple fly that i caught pike on when i used the fly rod there.

    Hi Aaron
will send photo again mate its an absolute belter of a fish while fishing a comp there last year I hooked a lively rainbow of a couple of pounds next thing my rod totally buckled over like being hooked on a snag after a few minutes of me prodding around with my net pole the fish came loose and all down sides were chewed away I think that bow was attacked by a pike !!
