    Saucon Creek

Made the drive with Chris out to Bethlehem to try this stream for the first time during the winter. We fished over areas where there are lots of fish only to find some very challenging fly fishing. A decent amount of smallish wild browns were brought to hand today. The trout were caught on cranefly larva, midges, and scuds. A scud was actually the fly of the day today. I knew that with the lack of hatches and insects in the drift that flies that are "independent of hatching" would be key today. I had to use a really long leader with 6X most of the time.

    Here are a few pics...

Here are a few of the fish...

I should not have ate the scud!

I should have been killed by a bird...

The highlight of the day was when we visited another Lehigh Valley stream at there was another angler there fishing "The Firefly!" He heard about it on the site and tied some up... and they worked. He landed a few fish today on them and I was there to take the picture of this one.

Glad you got home safe. It's good to fish a place like that on low and clear water conditions. It makes that days that you whack them good feel so much better.

    Alain,

Those fish there are so pretty. They are just like the ones on Spring.

what areas of the saucon did you fish at? I pulled two out of the pool right infront of the stairs in the park along the far bank on a 20 brassie 7x but didnt see any action farther up from there.

We fished the same area that you did. I only landed 8 and lost 3 others. Those fish are tough in the winter. Once the hatches start the fishing really gets into gear. However, it seems like everyone in the county finds out about it at the same time!

Catching a bunch of fish there in the winter is what separates the men from the boys!

    Re: Saucon Creek

I am glad I saw this posting because I thought Saucon was in Easton. Guess I am reading too much and not keeping notes.
I don't usually ask this, but where is that park. After I find that I am on my own.
If TPO member do'nt give directions that is ok too..I can understand that.
    thanks

I am sure someone will give it up. No big secret. If I knew, I would tell you.
