    Posting Pictures to Forum

Here is the long overdue tutorial that explains how to post pictures from photobucket on to this forum. Sorry I didn't do this sooner.

Step 1: download your digital photos to your computer

Step 2: launch your photobucket account on http://www.photobucket.com. If you don't have a photobucket account, you will need to create one. It is easy and really useful.

Step 3: select the "Choose Files" icon in center of screen, under the upload images area

Step 4: wait while the file uploads. This may take a few minutes if you have a camera with many megapixels. There are ways to shorten the time it takes for this step, if you are a more advanced computer user.

Step 5: look for the green check mark, this signifies that your image was successfully uploaded.

Step 6: you will see your picture in the window. When you drag the mouse over the picture, an information panel will pop up below the photo. In that panel, drag the mouse in the pale yellow box next to direct link and click once, this copies the hyperlink path in to the buffer

Step 7: start to write your post on TPO, and include the "img" construct by clicking the second to the left button on the bottom row of buttons. When you hold the mouse over this button, a highlight will appear that says "Insert Image"

Step 8: click "post" and enjoy sharing your pictures with everyone!

As a last resort, you may also email the pictures to troutpredator@gmail.com, and ask us to post them for you. Please let us know there are pictures there to post, and if possible, reduce the file sizes of the pictures. For example, my 8 MP camera can produce a single image file that is over 6 MB, but for posting on a computer screen, an equivalent image only needs to abotu 1/50 of that size!

If you're still not sure what to do, please ask us anytime.

In Step 7, you can also just copy the IMG link from photobucket and paste it into the dialog box on the forum. For multiple photos, I open up Notebook and paste all the IMG links there and them cut and paste from there as I need them.

If you lower the resolution on your pics, they will upload faster although with today's DSL, Cable, and Fiber Optic connections, resolution really shouldn't be too much of a problem, however it does drain bandwidth off of the website. If anyone needs a photo editing program to do this, IM me and I will burn you a copy of the one I use.

Photobucket has a builtin tool for trsizing pics. To use it simply bring up the pic you want to resize

Hover the cursor over the Resize tab at the top of the pic and choose the size or for a size of your choice click more options.

Wait for the page and the image to load. From here you can add the dimensions in the boxes at the top.

Save or replace when you are done.

Thanks LoPat. I didn't know about Photobucket's resizing features after uploading. To speed up your posting, you may want to resize your pictures smaller before uploading, and here's any easy way to do it.

I find the easiest way to downsize my pictures before uploading them to Photobucket is to use the built-in Windows features (I use XP Pro, but I am sure the others are closely equivalent). If you right mouse click any image in Windows and choose "Send to...Mail Recipient" it will ask you whether you want to make your "Make All Your Pictures Smaller." The default setting is 640 x 480 and that is more than enough for display on our site. In this way, you can email the pictures to yourself (or simply copy them from your mail program's compose window) before uploading. This is really useful when you are posting more than about three images, it will save you a lot of upload time. This is what you will see:
