    Colored Fluorocarbon

In the set-up for Spanish nymphing that I am going to betrying it calls for a section of "colored" florocarbon. What do you guys recommend (brand, size, etc). Thanks

I like to use the golden stren. I use it most in 10 pound test. How far away from the fly is the colored leader going to be? I generally put the colored line about 4-5 feet above the first fly.

I have some colored fluoro but none of it is as visible as Gold Stren.

    Loren,

Isn't it funny how people are always trying to say things are better ie. the colored flourocarbon, when in reality the "good old" golden stren is still the best for visibility.

Stren is very hard to see in shaded glare! It's never a bad idea to use 2 colors.

Has anyone played with cobra flat mono in the pale yellow color as part of their " sighter "? I've played with it some as a butt section of a leader. Doug Swisher is a big proponent of flat butt leaders. From my experience it was easy to nail-knot to the line but a bit tricky tying to smaller sections of regular round mono. But, it is easy to see and it floats too.

I have to agree here that flat filament does have many advantages over round.
Ken Sawada owner of Sussex tackle Japan , markets leaders produced this way.
We tried to sell those under the Partridge banner, and did no good.

The main advatnages of them is they do not twist and turn over real well.

Anybody care to share their leader "formula" for long line nymphing? On the Jack Dennis DVD they recommend something along the lines of 4' butt section, 2-3 feet colored fluoro and then 4-10 after that.

You have to come to it on your own based on your size, rod and abilities. In general, the intent is to minimize/remove the need for placing line on the water and to maximize strike detection under as many variables as possible. I doubt there is an endpoint as everyone I know, including myself, is constantly seeking to refine things. I use a very long (20-feet plus) "butt" section made of two parts. Works for me.
