That does make a deadly spinner, but damn, they are hard to actually see on the water.
Here is a Compara-Spinner. This is a great fly pattern for imitating insect during the spinner fall. ITs deadly. Just match up the size and color to match the species that you are imitating.
Have fun with it!

A Redneck's last words, "Hold my beer while I do this...."
I've been tying and fishing these flies with great success since the first Hatches was published. But last spring, I was having quite a few rejections to the Hendrickson Spinner while using a grizzly or dun hackle for the wings. For some reason, just for the hell of it, I picked up my Hatches and went to the section on spinners. Don't know how I missed it for the last 30some years, but Caucci & Nastasi recommend blending a light ginger with a medium dun hackle for this spinner. It gives the wing a slight tinge of a light rusty effect when skylighted. It sure did work out for the better last year. Fish that were refusing my original patterns were taking the new ones eagerly.
Might want to give it a try.![]()
