some shops in that area said they are starting to see mayflies

i have been on the south branch of the raritan a few times this past week. i have heard guys talking about seeing mayflies but i have yet to see some myself. i have seen lots of midges and a few stoneflies. some of the midges have been quite large. i saw a few that were at least a size 18. i had to catch one just to check. i cant wait for the mayfly and caddis hatches to start. i also think that this will get the larger holdover fish feeding. for the most part they have been kind of hidden since the new fish were stocked. i ventured away from the stockie basher flies and caught a few of the holdover rainbows but i know that there are quite a few in there. also anyone do any bug sampling on any of our streams? what have you been finding?

I could have sworn I saw two or three hendricksons on Sunday.
what river was that on ? the pequest? they usually have very early hatches. i was there a few years ago and saw some of the heaviest blue quill hatches that i have ever seen. even more concentrated than the delaware. i was amazed at the numbers of insects.

I have heard of some Baetis reports.....
Hendricksons need water temps at least in the low 50"s for a few days in a row until they show...
i would think that today is most likely day four or five over fifty in the nj streams.... well the ones below route eighty at least?

Wow! We are still trying to get into the 40" again after snow melt...
i was at the south branch on tues on the warm day and got 54 for a temp. that river gets really warm fast. i am sure that some of the northern streams are a week or two away.
the only ones i saw today were tucked underneath the rocks ;D
