    Czech nymphing

From what I understand You rig up like three nymphs the heviest goes on the top and you get close to the water you want to fish and work the rig dow stream. Is this correct?

It seems like a lot ot tieing to do stream side, Does anyone rig them up before they head out fishing?

What knots do you use to connect the droppers?

    Thanks for all your help?

i know that for the competition style fishing that they have multiple rods rigged up. the whole chezch nymphing style was developed for competition fishing. i know that the competitors have multiple rigs set up on cards. they are not allowed to use split shot on many of the streams in europe. i know they they like to put the heaviest fly in the bottom. i have not experimented with weighted flies. i usually just use split shot. and tight line nymph on pocket water situations. i also know that they ties dropper knots to each of the two flies that are above the heavily weighted nymph. you can just tie the tippet to both sides of the hook eye. i hope this hepls.

    Re: Czech nymphing

From what I've read, the heavy fly most commonly goes in the middle spot, and they will go as big a #6-8 caddis larva jammed with lead to get down- kind of a "sacrifice" fly. Average fly sizes for the top and bottom flies are #10-12, but they will go from a #8-16. They make short casts, with very little line out, and the leader is basically just straight tippet. Leader and flies are "led" downstream in a dead-drift, but the rod tip stays downstream from the line/leader and keeps tension on the flies, almost pulling them downriver. Flies are usually spaced 20" apart, leader is no longer than your rod, often significantly shorter. Some are starting to use superbraids (like Power Pro, Fireline, etc.) for the first section of their leader, because it is ultra thin and has almost no stretch, making it better for bite detection and hook-sets. Umpqua is actually marketing a Czech Nymph leader for '07, with a super braid butt section and 2 droppers already rigged.

I read a couple articles on this and one had torrey's rig and the other had the heaviest at the bottom like aaron said. I have found, after fishing both ways, the extra fly isn't worth the hastle. if you can use split shot I would just go with two. Again, I'm certainly not an expert.

I'm with you on that one Justin. I think that many places in Europe don't allow u to use split shot, so you almost have to use 3 flies- one "sacrifice" fly to get down, 2 to actually fish with. My Scottish friend Harry tells me that many Europeans that come to the USA, go back home with the indicator, split shot and 2-fly rig because it's easier and more logical. I like some of the leader design ideas the Czechs use though, and their flies look very cool, like definite fish catchers.

    Re: Czech nymphing

Thanks. There is an insane amount of info on the internet on Czech and Polish nymphing, you could spend hours and hours going thru it. I have a whole bunch of bookmarks on it, interesting stuff. Love to see how a skilled American strike indicator nympher would do against a skilled Czech nympher going thru the same piece of water.
