Is this the same stuff we are using as "ice dub" or a different product? I think you could make a slim profile with a dubbing loop.
Any of you guys try this stuff? Is it good for tying competitive flies? I never took it out of the package but was wondering if you could tie weighted flies with it or is it too buggy and creats too much friction when sinking.
Thanks guys

I think he actually meant just Quick Descent Dubbing, the "Ice" was added in accidently. I think a wire counter-rib would also help slim the fly, on top of tightly twisting a dubbing loop like you mentioned.
A Redneck's last words, "Hold my beer while I do this...."
How silly of me, of course. That is interesting stuff, all aluminum. It's supposed to dub really small, down to size 32 according to the advertisement. I guess it's similar in texture to the type of steel wool used to refinish furniture (but it doesn't rust).
I have used the stuff; you can actually have the opposite problem, the dubbing is soft metal, so as you twist it onto the thread, if you are not careful, it will crush into a tight shape with little or no loose fibers. And, being soft metal, once it crushes (including after a fish or two chew on it) it stays crushed. The only thing I use it for now is for hot spots, or in bright green for the peeking caddis where I twist it onto the thread tight enough so that it makes a smooth surface, just like using fine dry fly dubbing.

I spent most of my money on fishing equipment, beer and whiskey, the rest I just wasted.
