So I went to visit my brother on the Kenai. He's a wild water guide and gets free use of a boat on his days off. So off we went. Water temp was 45C, we fished with big fat indicators and 7 weights, with "Sheen Beads", and flesh flies. Many Rainbows and Dolly Vardens were brought to hand.
All I have to Say is WOW. This is still early for trout fishing and it was still the best day of fishing of my life. I saw the biggest trout of my life lost. A big 30" rainbow my buddy hooked into. He ran to the backing and then bolted straight at the boat. A couple of flying leaps and bam, gone. That's why hes a 30" trout. I know what Ahab felt like on the Pequod.
Second day we went to a local creek, lots of Dollys and some Bows, this time with my 5 weight. Both places the Salmon are the major food source (eggs and dead flesh) so where theres Sockeye there is Trout. Unfortunately you catch one every once and awhile, and they destroy your leader more often than not. They're kind of like catching a log.
Fish up here fight like mad, plus the water is big and fast. I never heard drag on my real sing so much.
