I was down on the Kenai early this September - tacked on three days of fishing to another trip. I second the suggestion to get a guide for a walk-in trip to orient yourself and then self-guide your way around from there. Easy to do, for sure. Lots of creeks and other easily accessible water to fish. Found great campgrounds as well. Low cost and good facilities. And the fishing is, as BCBT says, completely nuts. Like blitz fishing for bluefish and bass. Cast, drift, hit, set the hook, and then hold on. Some supercharged rainbows there, a few different strains according to local knowledge. Real beasts that burn right into the backing in seconds. I also did not bother to take pictures after the first hour. Just remember to bring a big enough net.
