    Aniak

    Hey guys, I was curious if any of you have any experience with the Aniak area of alaska, the southwest mainland area. I applied for a summer internship there with one of the grad students from my program and hopefully will be in the back country working on salmon for 3 months. I should hear back in the next couple days, wish me luck! If any of you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it. I know what North Carolina summers are like, but Alaska seems like another planet from my experiences.

    I'm starting to guide up towards Talkeetna Alaska, south central Alaska, worked for a relative last summer, anyway if you want advice and answers just post some questions. Also the main peace of advice I can give you is bring allot of layers from shorts and tshirts to long underwear and a good rain coat. Weather can very from the 90 degree range to the 30's and 40's, all four seasons in one day. Also a good blade is always good to have, I'd recommend some of these brands: Leatherman, Spyderco, Boker, CRKT, Gerber, Buck and Outdoor edge just to name a few. Remember the Alaskan Bush is not the place to skimp on your equipment, the last thing you need is to be in a survival situation and you crummy low grade knife is rusting and losing its edge. And don't forget our friends the BEARS, take all precautions possible to be safe and stay safe. Anyway if you need anymore help just ask and good luck with the internship.
