    Alaska for the Budgeted angler..

    Hey guys,
This is a great topic that you all should take into consideration. The great land is just that, a place we should all go to at least once, and if you are like me, it will haunt you every season that you dont get back. Having take my share of trips to the great land, and with some truly good guys, I offer you all up the way that Alaska is truly attainable for the money conscious angler.

Lets face it, although awesome, a lodge in alaska for a week is going to run you $5,000.00, no questions asked from soup to nuts, with airfare, food, licenses, float plane drops etc...and thats a ballpark low-ball estimation. 5,000 clams is alot of money to shell out for anyone, and way out of my budget. Can you say RV? Having done this on more than one occasion I can honestly say that you can do Alaska via the roads systems, with an RV and 4-5 good buddies for under $2,000.00 for a 10 day trip! And that price tag solely depends on how extravegant you want to live, how much Alaskan Amber you decide to drink, and how much salmon you decide to bring home. For the budgeted angler thats pretty darn do-able, and some years I did the trip for $1,500! Ask Aaron, Nymphmeister and the crew about the fishing pics to boot, there is good fishing everywhere and selecting the proper rivers and times are all that it takes to have a really memorable Alaskan getaway for an affordable price tag...Sound interesting?

Let me tell you this, you can have tremendous fishing, and you can do it alone or with a guide, it doesnt matter. The two most crucial points are timing, and what species you would like to target. I will leave the post open for discussion, and any questions I will answer as quickly as I possibly can . I have taken all 5 species of salmon, dollies, and some truly insane Bows on the trips that I have taken to the great land, and the memories that have unfolded with the guys that I have gone with are second to none, it really is a great way to check out that place, I am having flashbacks of the 10+ lb bows I launched on the last trip and those red hot Silvers that tore up the surface of the Kenai when hooked.....(I gotta get back soon)

Some friends of mine do the same trip. Rent the RV, split the cost and do well.

They manage to go every other year or so. They start out in Anchorage and head south I guess. It's so incredible there I'd like to take my sons after college is finished.

I highly recommend it, and if you need help setting it up, let me know I could help you out. Timing is everything there too, you want to go when everything is happening, and Salmon runs change year to year. IF coming home with some fish is on your plan, and you like sockeye (personally they are the best eating) then I would go that first week of August. You wont go wrong, you can get an Alaskan Grand Slam if you are willing to do a little driving, and the bow/dolly fishing will be in full swing...

Thanks, it's in the future but I appreciate your help. My boss, who was like a real father to me, took me there in 1980. Hard to believe it was so long ago.

We fished Ugashik Narrows for sockeye, Artic char up to 17 lbs., Dolly Varden, Silver salmon, Lakers, pike and Grayling. Then on the last day we fished Talarik creek for rainbows up to 12 lbs. Stayed at Iliamna Lake Lodge. Its' still there and I'm still trying to get back. It was just unforgettable....spectacular....Someday..
