Housy prognosis for 11/8-9 weekend

We are looking good- the flow tonight as I write this is 1,150cfs and seems to be still dropping, albeit slowly. I know Southern CT got whacked with some good rain today, but all we got was a little drizzle this AM & evening. Overnight forecast is for 1/10"- 1/8" of rain- I think it's safe to say we skated out on the rain, the radar showed it going way North, as in Southern NH & VT.

I imagine fishing pressure will be much, much lighter on the Housy than Farmington this weekend, there seems to be a mass exodus to that river in the last week or two. I could hardly find a spot there on Monday, had to leave the TMA. Elbow room is always easier to find on the Housy, isn't it? Thank God! The river really is in good shape, at a medium & clear flow, and with the mild weather the trout should be active & feeding. Nymphing with stoneflies, scuds, eggs & Princes has been the way to go of late, although with the warmer weather and the flow receding, we should see more Olives so don't put your #18-20 BWO type nymphs away yet, esp. in the afternoon. You may be able to hunt up some risers in the flat water of the lower Park, Corner Hole down to the Wall, the olives have been anywhere from #18-26- yesterday #22's were predominant. Afternoon is prime time for that hatch. Midge hatches should be starting up anytime, November is usually a big month for that. And don't neglect streamers, the browns get real aggressive on them in October & November. For some reason drabber, more natural looking streamers have produced the best this Fall- natural Zonkers & Barr's Slump Busters, McCunes Sculpins, Muddlers, Olive Madonnas, etc. However, don't neglect traditionally good Fall colors such as yellow or white, or the sometimes deadly combo of brown & yellow. Sink-tips, Teeny type lines, or Rio Sinking leaders will get your streamers down & catch you more and bigger trout.

My prediction is for relatively light fishing pressure, but good fishing for those using nymphs & streamers, and maybe some risers if you look in the right spots. Expect the flow to be just over 1,000cfs- higher than normal for early November, but still a medium & very fishable flow. Fishing pressure always drops off in November, even though the fishing usually remains good to excellent. Hope to see you on the Housy!

Corner Hole even when crowded still would have less people than any spot on the SR. The crowds are out of control. I would rather catch 12 inch trout at the Housy with out 5 guys trying to run you out of the spot that you are fishing in.
