I needed a little "home cooking" before my trip to Montana this week. I headed up to the WB and thats what I got. Like Loren said Shallow fast water holds many large trout! Large trout were the key to today. A good amount over 20" inches. I took some nice artistic photos of the fish being released. i will try to get them up soon. If I wanted to do grip and grin photos I might have worn my arms out with pics of 20" wild trout . It's that good there for big wild trout. No secret river here! However, one would have thought I was at Location "X" of trout fishing or something of the like. Lo and behold it was only Delaware County, New York.

The hatches are very slow and I think that this is directly related to the Didymo. We have both been up here many times are during the same time period to see blanket hatches of olives and sulphers. We saw good number of olives but only adjacent to areas near weed beds, which is a habitiat that the didymo cannot attach itself to.

I even caught a bunch on dries including another 20 inch fish. They were taken on size 20 snow shoe rabbit bwo's

I fished both strike indicator and Euro methods of nymphing. The only thing was that no matter the method used all trout were taken on small brown nymphs in sizes 16-18.

I just thought I'd report, because I got a great laugh out of this. I went to the West Branch the day after Aaron did -- no idea what I was doing (what else is new) and no idea where to fish. Went to a local shop and the guy told me to go up to Deposit, which I did. Anyway, fished for 7 hours pretty much the same stretch of water the whole time because I didn't know where else to go, and hooked one fish. I was about to leave the spot but I saw another guy sidle in so I figured maybe I was doing something wrong so I went back for more torture. Used every nymph I owned, no small brown ones of course, and got nothing but that green gunk on just about every cast. 2 1/2 hours each way for one hookup which I promptly lost, and then I get home and read Aaron's report!!!!!!I had to laugh. I'll guarantee you he was fishing somewhere near the same stretch I was, but that's why he has a website -- a good one -- and I don't. If I ever do, don't read it.

When you fish there look for places in riffle where fish can get away from people. This is the water that is super shallow with a heavy chop on the surface. This is the type of water that I am finding fish in anmd lots of them.

I used strike indicators in Deposit. Howevern the rest of the day was spent using long leaders and weighted nymphs. We even fished dries for a little bit. We had some cloud cover, which helpes the conditions greatly.
