We are going to hold another class with Loren in Late Oct./early Nov. I will have the date set at the end of the week.... stay tuned.
I did a day of guided instruction with Aaron on Euro-Nymphing. I prepared for the day by viewing the Vladi - Jack Dennis video. After viewing the video I was convinced I could not learn this technique from the video alone. I was correct. Aaron walked me through the techniques starting with leader construction , fly selection and knots. The idea of casting an 18 foot leader with weighted flies and droppers looked like a train wreck to me but as the day progressed I began to handle the leader and flies with confidence. He started me in the easiest situations and worked me slowly up to the more difficult presentations ( with a lot of patience I might add). I found Euro-Nymphing challenging , rewarding and relaxing. Presenting flies in this manner brought me back to my earliest days of fishing. I am sixty years old and I felt like a kid drifting the flies around boulders and undercut banks. I even hooked fish by flexing my wrist and the end of the presentation something I frankly thought was BS. I asked Aaron what he thought the hardest part of Euro-Nymphing was. His take on that was concentration and focus. I found that to be very helpful. To properly execute this technique you have to be focused from the casting and throughout the entire presentation. No goofing off !!! I finished the day determined to try Euro-Nymphing on my own. I fished the next day on the Farmington and caught four fish including an 18 inch brown on the anchor fly a heavily weighted size six yellow stone fly. I was amazed I could do this after one day of instruction . Thanks Aaron for a great day and the experience of an old dog learning new tricks

I strongly advise anyone interested in Euro Nymphing to sign up for the class with Loren. This Old Dog was amazed at the wealth of information he will share in the class. The nymphing theory is fine however, the most valuable to me was time on the water and Loren showing the very subtle line control techniques required.

wwelz-
I have to concede that Aaron is a very good teacher when it comes to fly fishing. I'm glad your "one person Euro-nymphing clinic" went so well. I heard great things about Loren's "Versatile Nymphing Clinic", and I highly recommend doing that one too. I'm gonna try to get the day off work so I can attend it the 2nd time around. We will see you at the nymph clinic this Saturday at HRO.
A Redneck's last words, "Hold my beer while I do this...."
I got the date from Loren. We are going to do it on October 11th, 2008. We will both be instructing groups for half the time with a brief synopsis of rigging etc at the beginning. It was a huge success the first time around. We had to turn away 16 people. So if you are intrigued or thinking about trying it, don't wait!
The cost will be 100 dollars for the full day class.this includes lunch and drinks. We will hold the class at either the Housy or the Farmington, which ever river is fishing better. From what I heard today, the Housy might be the front runner!
Great post wwelz. I can feel your enthusiasm. Your right, it does make you feel like your a kid again. There is so much other stuff I should be doing but there I am, week after week, balancing on one foot trying to get my waders on without stepping on the dirt. Then threading my rod real fast, trying to beat the guy who just pulled into the same spot at the same time I did. Last week I even fell in with my wifes camera in my vest pocket! No fish- no problem. (That happens occasionally.) Still, it must be the kid in me that keeps me coming back.
Guys, jump on that Euro clinic with Loren. We are lucky that Aaron can get him down here for us. By October the rivers will provide a good environment to see what this technique can do. I can tell you first hand, its a good time and a chance to meet and learn with other TPO members.
