The fishing this trip to the river was remarkably better. I fished a variety of techniques today. I used long leader weighted nymph techniques and long line nymphed with strike indicators. BOth caught fish. I even got bored and dry fly fished... boy have those fish gotten tough. I even talked to Burt a fellow guide from HRO and he said dry fly fishing there recently has been a humbling experience. Managed to land a good amount of nymphs and a few on driesI even got on on a beetle!

Also, it's alarming to see the lack of smaller fish. We only caught one under 15 inches. Where are they? I hope they are hiding. They are the future of the fishery.

All the trout were caught on 265's. rs2's, sulpher emergers in a size 18 as well as the BEETLE.

West Branch was definitlely a lot of fun and as Aaron said, where are the little ones? That rainbow I caught was the smallest of the day. You would think that the small ones would be in the riffles, but Aaron pulled and 18 inch one out and no little ones. I'd tend to think its a pretty bad sign about the health of the river. Unless someone has an explaination, I'd be worried. I guess, no kill is awesome but there needs to be a balance.

When I went two years ago, we caught a lot of little ones near the treatment plant. Maybe last year was a poor year class.
