    Housy in Mass

Hey guys...I was traveling in western Ma this past week. From South Egremont up to Pittsfield. I was thinking about fishing the housatonic around there ive tried the two catch and release spots and actually did pretty well a couple yrs ago but havent been back since...is there worthwhile to head upstream from lee to pittsfield?? also crossed the green while in egremont...blown out but looks like nice water...getting the fever bad!

I've only fished the 2 TMA's in Mass, but I'll tell you what I know from talking to customers about the rest of the river in Mass- lots of Smallmouth, Carp & Pike, with a few trout here and there.

I love it.up there. I woukd wait for the flows to get down to abound 500 cfs. They have decent holdovers there and they should be stocking soon. The hatches are good as well. I like the Lee stretch much better. There are lots of pools and riffles with trout in all of them. Use stoneflies with either a caddis larva or a larger mayfly nymph dropped off of it. You can also try streamers fished slow.

The Green typically runs very clear, and has a mix of stockers, holdovers & wild browns. I've been told that the holdovers and especially the wild fish are very spooky, due to the small size of the stream & very clear water (normally!). I'm sure there is some movement of trout in & out of there from the Housy, esp. during high water, Summertime and Fall Spawning (Nov is the peak month for that).
