That's really interesting. We hammered the fish all week long when we were in Alaska on the Russian and Kenai river along with a few creeks. Never had a one take it deep. However, your point goes directly to what a lot say about eggs in general and how fish eat them. They inhale them quick. That is why fishing the beads above a hook is better than fishing them directly on a hook. There are two schools of thought about the beads. That one and another is some feel it isn't fly fishing when using a bead. Well, I say this. We as flyfisherman use other types of flies to immitate a lot of other food sources i.e streamers to immitate baitfish, san juan worms, other worm patterns to imitate garden worms or nightcrawlers, crayfish, etc. Yeah I know they are tied on an actual hook but an egg is another food source. There are different ways to imitate an egg i.e glo worm, clusters, soft eggs, and beads. I have plenty tied on hooks and have caught fish on them. A few times the fish did take it deeper than what I liked. A hook below I believe helps with keeping the trout from swallowing it deep. I have been hammering the fish on the Farmy and Housy with beads the last 2 weeks or so and not one has taken it deep with hook being below. I also have another way of fishing them that works like a charm as well.
